Learning & Leading

Learning & Leading

At Mississippi State University, Leadership begins with Day One. Students will learn and lead together with character, honor, and integrity at all times, both in and out of the class.

Learning

The energy contained within Day One is further leveraged by the creation of "Pods" that comprise of three to four community service teams.

Made up of about 25 students, these Pods provide a more personalized level of identity. During weekly meetings, students in each Pod can collaborate with each other concerning the progression of their respective projects, challenges their teams are facing, and the overall Day One experience.

This shared communication allows students to bond, building friendships while attending classes and forming study groups.

Leading

Day One students are further divided into "Action Teams."

Throughout the semester, Action Teams are guided by MSU faculty/staff and upperclass students from the Montgomery Leadership Program. Action Teams plan and implement a "Service-Learning Project" that addresses a need faced by their community partner.
